There are three options to start your search:

• Click "Find Medicine" or use the search bar under the highlights on the home page.
• Click "Medicines" > "Find Medicine" on the home page, or click "Open resource" at the bottom of this page to go straight to the Medicines section.

Here, we will describe both the straightforward search option and the advanced search functionality.

Simple search

Click "Medicines for human use" to open the search bar and enter the product name or the active substance. You can either go to one of the immediate suggestions or click "Search" to view the search results.

Note: If you do not see any immediate suggestions when you're typing, you might have a misprint in your search query OR the product you are looking for is not in the register. Sometimes, you will need to search a national register.

Let's open the suggested Ibuprofen Gen.Orph entry:

Immediately, you can see that the drug product is currently authorized in the European Union. Go down to "Authorisation details" to view more information about the authorization status:

Go to "Product information" to read the Summary of Product Characteristics or the Product Information Label. Click "View" to open the pdf in English or expand "Other languages" to open a pdf in another language.

Unfortunately, the only available format is PDF, for now. To view the documents as parallel texts, you will have to open the pdfs side by side or create a bilingual document yourself.

Advanced search

Now, let's explore the Advanced search options. Go back to the Medicines page on the EMA website or click "Open resource" at the bottom of this page.

The advanced search functionality looks for keywords from your search entry throughout the entire website. You can narrow your search by setting filters on the left:

The immediate suggestions will appear as soon as you start typing:

Also, you can narrow your search by selecting one or several of the following filters:

• Category: Corporate, Herbal, Human, or Veterinary
• Document type
• Medicine name, authorisation status, etc.
• ATC code
• Date of last update
• And much more

If you check the box "Include documents" in the filters, you will have direct access to product information from the search results:

You can also see the authorization status there.
