This medical corpus is a domain-specific collection of about 33 million words of English texts gathered from medical-science websites across the Internet. It was built with the “Corpus Factory” method (Kilgarriff et al., LREC 2010) and part-of-speech tagged with TreeTagger using the English Penn Treebank tagset. The corpus is provided by Lexical Computing and comes preloaded in the Sketch Engine platform.
You work with it online in Sketch Engine, using the platform’s full toolset. For translators and writers, this is a practical way to check how often a term or phrase is actually used and to find typical collocations and context.
Sketch Engine is a subscription service with a 30-day free trial. Click “Open resource” to learn more about the corpus on Sketch Engine website.
